Conqueror's Monument Unveiled

Updated: Nov 1

If you have entered through the majestic gates of our school, you would notice a beautiful blue monument. This monument was contributed by the head students for our last academic year (2023-2024). This monument is one of their legacies to the institution. It will hold the head students name for the next 48 years. Now isn’t that something spectacular?

The monument was officially unveiled and dedicated on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 2pm. Invitees got to celebrate the moment with our immediate past head students. They shared their memory and their dedication to getting it completed at the small ceremony.  The acting Coordinator for the period, Mr. Kristoff St-John mentioned in his speech that this monument “would seek to inspire the next generation of students, from as early as grade 7 to aspire to work hard to have their names engraved in the history of the school’s leadership”. Mr. Adonio Palmer, Deputy Head boy for the academic year 2023 to 2024, emphasized the school's core values engraved in the center of the crest atop the monument :"Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Commitment and Honesty", which, when used as an acronym, forms the word R.E.A.C.H. He affirmed that "these core values empowered the head students to erect this fantastic piece". He further encouraged students to "Embody these core values... Unlock your full potential... Inspire others to do the same... Create a ripple effect of positive change".

At the ceremony, Mr. Damar Wright, previous Head Boy, could be seen handing over the “Conqueror’s Monument” to our current Head Boy Mr. Robinho Shettlewood. He charged Mr. Shettlewood to ensure that the legacy lived on and “inspire” the next generation to “reach” for excellence. Mr. Wright stated that “on behalf of the previous head students, we aim to inspire students to become confident, resilient and compassionate leaders. The conqueror’s monument symbolizes our dedication to nurture a community of empowered individuals who will leave a positive impact on the world”. This was also reinforced by Ms. Domonique Williams, preceding deputy Head girl. “We worked tirelessly with Mr. Campbell and the team to ensure that the absolute best work was done and that this legacy project represented the students …as greatness within the greatest institution.”

Thanks was extended to the chairman, Ms. Sharon Dale, the alumni represented by Ms. Kerry-Ann White, board members, teachers who believed in them and all other stakeholders such as parents, administration, students, ancillary and support staff for their invaluable contributions. It was mentioned that funding was also predominately attributed to the “Mr. and Miss St. Catherine High” competition of 2023 to 2024, alumni support and Mr. Marlon Campbell who worked assiduously to ensure that any resources needed, were supplied in a timely manner. Students were encouraged to take care of the monument and ensure that its value and meaning remain a symbol of hope and excellence.
