Awareness of multiple career opportunities from different colleges or institutions is crucial as it empowers students to make informed decisions about their education. It enables them to explore diverse paths, align their passions and goals, and choose the right institution and program. Such awareness fosters adaptability, enhancing future career prospects and personal fulfillment.
On October 31, 2023, the Guidance & Counselling Department hosted a Career Day for upper school students of St. Catherine High School. This was a suitable time for all students of the upper school to be aware of the different career opportunities that each student can pursue. St. Catherine High was happy to have institutions coming to our school. Some of the institutions that we were exposed to are:
Vocational Training Development Insitute
University of the Commonwealth Caribbean
College of Agriculture Science & Education (CASE)
Aeronautical School of the West Indies
University of the West Indies Mona Campus (UWI)
Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF)
Department of Correctional Services
Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB)
Versan Educational Services
During the viewing process, the University of the West Indies sensitize sixth formers about their courses and career opportunities. Upper school students benefit significantly from understanding various career paths offered by different colleges or institutions. This awareness broadens their perspective, allowing informed decisions aligned with their aspirations. It fosters adaptability, enhances their skills, and ensures a well-suited educational choice, leading to fulfilling and successful career endeavors.
